Mr. Davis

WELCOME TO THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR

Hello, my name is Steve Davis and I will be teaching your sixth or seventh grade child science this year. This is my twenty-second year teaching this subject area at Colonial Beach Elementary and it still continues to be a job I enjoy.

I was born in Newport, Rhode Island, and I have also lived in Florida, South Carolina, Maryland, and of course, Virginia. I received a degree in Speech Communications from George Mason University, and my teaching licensure from Longwood College.

I love the small town atmosphere of Colonial Beach, and I have enjoyed being part of the changes that have made our school system unique and rewarding for students. I truly feel that we are in a position to make CBPS a stand-out school system in Virginia.

Grading Scale

The grading scale for Science is as follows:

CLASSWORK- 20%

HOMEWORK- 10%

QUIZZES-           25%

TESTS/MAJOR PROJECTS-             45%

It is very important that students turn in their work on time. Your child will be given an Agenda (planner) in which homework and test assignments are to be written down. Please check your child’s Agenda daily to keep track of what they are expected to do in each class. Also, you can go to www.cbschools.net and access your child’s classes to see what assignments and tests are being assigned. Homework that is turned in late without a valid reason (I understand things do come up that cause work to be turned in late) will be penalized with a lower grade.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

Your child is a valued member of my classroom. Please encourage your child to contribute to our daily classroom discussions and activities. I feel that an ideal classroom environment is one in which every child is made to feel that he/she is an important member of a team. We will be spending this year helping each other to succeed not just in Science but also in learning how to work together to achieve common goals.

Sincerely,

Steve Davis
