Hello Colonial Beach families and friends!  My name is Benjamin Swanson, and I am the PreK-7 Music Teacher at Colonial Beach Elementary School.  This is my third year teaching and my third year at CBES.  I love my Drifter family!

I am originally from Jamestown, NY (the birthplace of Lucille Ball!).  I hold a Bachelor of Music with concentrations in Vocal and Instrumental Music Education and Musical Theatre Performance from James Madison University.  I am primarily a vocalist, but I play a variety of musical instruments, including piano, trumpet, and ukulele.  I am a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA), and the American Choral Director's Association (ACDA).  In addition to teaching at CBES, I am the founding artistic director of Connexion Chamber Choir, a community choir based here in Colonial Beach.

Music has been a part of my life for a very long time.  I got started singing "God Bless America" in my 5th Grade Talent Show, and as the saying goes, "The rest is history!" In high school, I entered the realm of musical theatre, and I knew that I wanted to share the gift of music with others for the rest of my life.  Music is life-changing, and it has the power to connect with us in ways that other things cannot.

You can contact me on Class Dojo or by email at  I am looking forward to another wonderful year here at CBES!
